Homeschool Admission Requirements

Review the academic standards and materials required for homeschooled applicants.

Required High School Courses
Homeschooled applicants are expected to complete the following high school–level coursework with satisfactory grades:

• 4 units of English
• 3 units of math (Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II)
• 2 units of the same foreign language
• 2 units of lab sciences
• 2 units of social sciences
• 3 units of academic electives (may include additional math, language, science or social science courses)

General Admission Standards

• Competitive homeschooled applicants typically have a GPA of 3.1 or higher in the required curriculum.
• Applicants must provide either:
  • A high school transcript documenting homeschool coursework, or official GED scores.

Additional Requirements for Homeschooled Students

• Submit two letters of recommendation from individuals who know your academic work or can speak to your experience, motivation and capacity to succeed (for example, an employer, co-worker or community member).
• Submit a written statement that:
  • Explains your reasons for seeking admission to Montclair State University
  • Describes your academic strengths and interests
  • Notes any circumstances that have positively or negatively affected your academic record
  • Lists significant activities
