Art lovers and collectors can choose from 95 works of contemporary art at the annual "Art Connections" juried art exhibition and sale, beginning January 25 to February 21 at Montclair State University’s award-winning George Segal Gallery.

Now in its 11th year, the popular exhibit is a must-see among gallery patrons and the area’s many collectors, curators, and art dealers. “Each year, ‘Art Connections’ looks to assemble works that reflect what is happening nationwide within the art world,” says Teresa Rodriguez, director of Montclair State University’s George Segal Gallery.

Submissions for "Art Connections 11" have come from New Jersey, New York, New Mexico, Connecticut, Texas, and Pennsylvania. This year, three invited artists will be featured along with 50 artists in this popular exhibition that draws hundreds at the opening reception.  All works of art are for sale and proceeds are shared with the artists 50/50.  Net proceeds support the gallery’s exhibitions, educational programs and the care of the permanent collection.

Serving as juror for this year’s event is Kathleen Madden, an art historian and art writer who contributes regularly to art books and magazines such as Artforum, Art in American and OSMOS. She has been part of the curatorial team for exhibitions at Tate Modern, the Barbican Art Gallery and the Serpentine Gallery.  Previously, she was the commissioning editor of Contemporary Art at Phaidon Press, where she produced books such as Vitamin Ph: New Perspectives in Photography and Ice Cream: Contemporary Art and Culture.  She teaches for Barnard College and Sotheby’s Institute of Art and is working on a book with Ridinghouse, London about Carolee Schneemann, legendary performance artist.  She is currently editing the Performa 13 book to be published in 2015.

Since its founding almost 40 years ago, Montclair State University’s art galleries have lived their mission to propagate culture and art through interpretive modern and contemporary art exhibitions and the presentation of related events using their collection as well as local, statewide, and international sources. "Art Connections" is the annual fund-raising event for the George Segal Gallery – the crown jewel of Montclair State University’s art galleries. "Art Connections" has grown from a regional exhibit to one of national scope, encouraging artists in all media.

Gallery hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Thursday from 12:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Entry to the gallery is from the fourth floor of the Red Hawk Parking Deck adjacent to the Alexander Kasser Theater.  The George Segal Gallery is wheelchair accessible.  If you require any accommodations or service, please call 973-655-6941 at least two weeks prior to your visit.
