On April 25, 2025, The Global Center on Human Trafficking was represented at this year’s Student Research Symposium, a university-wide event that highlights outstanding student-led scholarship and research. Andrea Raffi, GCHT student intern, alongside Dr. Daniela Peterka-Benton, GCHT Director, presented their research project titled “Engagement of Libraries in Preventing and Addressing Human Trafficking in the State of New Jersey.” The study surveyed 267 library staff across the state to assess their awareness of human trafficking, experiences with trafficking-related incidents, and training needs. Findings revealed that while some libraries have integrated social workers into their staff, many still lack the resources and training necessary to identify and support individuals who may be at risk. The study underscores the crucial, yet underutilized, role that libraries can play in preventing trafficking and aiding survivors through expanded awareness and stronger community partnerships.
