The Cali School of Music welcomes the Heimat Quartet as its graduate string quartet-in-residence. Every two years the School offers a fellowship to a new quartet that will be coached intensively by the Shanghai Quartet, present concerts and workshops throughout the region, and perform a debut at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall.

The Heimat String Quartet was founded during the fall of 2014 in Boston, MA. Its members, violinists Aubrey Holmes and Patrick Shaughnessy, violist Christine Sherlock, and cellist Brendan Phelps, bring a wide array of experience and renewed energy to both the music and the group. In 2015, the quartet was selected as the graduate string quartet-in- residence at Kent State University where they have just completed their studies with the Miami String Quartet. Notable engagements have included performances and master classes at the College of New Jersey, Mercer College, Duke University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Dickinson College, and participation in the Juilliard String Quartet Seminar. The Heimat Quartet were the 2016 featured young artists for the 34th season of Music From The Western Reserve. In addition to performing, many of the members held teaching positions in the greater Cleveland area where they were also the string quartet-in-residence at Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, Ohio. This summer the quartet will participate in the Mimir Chamber Music Festival held annually in Fort Worth, TX. They are the faculty string quartet-in-residence at Interlochen Center for the Arts this summer. In addition to their residency at the Cali School, they will participate in the Mendelssohn Festival (Hamburg, Germany) in September.
