The Cali School of Music takes pride in nurturing the musical, personal, and professional development of our students. We love to see what they’re up to!
The Cali School invited Cornelia Lotito, one of our exceptionally talented former students …who just won the district 2022 MET auditions btw… to speak to our undergraduate students about her career path after graduating from the Cali School with a degree in Vocal Performance 4 years ago. The theme of her talk was “Planning a Career in Impossible Times” and addressed online presence and social media, competitions vs. auditions, young artist programs, graduate school, and beyond!
She had some great nuggets to share such as “Find out what is the ONE THING that you do better than anyone else. This is the quest of all singers. It can be ‘I’m super good at interpreting the works.’ This is something you can rely on and believe in” also she shared that ” Networking is really easy. You just have to be NICE to people and in return…they are nice to you! Be nice to people and then maybe ask a favor of them occaisionally.”
Cornelia’s former teacher, Valerie Berhnhard shared that “Cornelia Lotito has a beautiful warm and resonant mezzo soprano voice with fantastically impressive agility. I am so glad that she took the chance and trusted my suggestion to transition from soprano to mezzo soprano when she was an undergrad. She is bold and confident in her determination both on and offstage. I could not be more proud of all that she has accomplished throughout her singing career! ”
