Cali musicians perform on the stage of The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Saturday March 19th in New York City was the Cali School of Music’s featured event “Montclair at the MET”, highlighting the artistry of the Cali School of Music’s Premiere Ensembles Montclair State University Wind Symphony, Montclair State University Singers, and Montclair State University Jazz Ensemble in the The Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The MSU Wind Symphony, conducted by Dr. Thomas McCauley, performed the entire suite of Symphonic Dances from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein.
MSU Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dr. Oscar Perez, performed a swinging funky set including Jojo’s Mojo by Marcus Printup, Ding Dong Ding by Bob Brookmeyer, and Trouble Man by Gaye & Mintzer.
University Singers, conducted by Dr. Heather Buchanan, were excited to present repertoire expanding a multitude of styles and genres by underrepresented and/or contemporary composers performing Alexander Lloyd Blake’s Poor Wayfaring Stranger, Budi Susanto Yohanes‘ Janger, Eric Whitacre’s Water Night, Evening Prayer in collaboration with student Rodrigo Romero on tenor saxophone among other selections.
The audience was as engaged and energetic as the performers creating an unforgettable atmosphere and an evening to remember for all. Please enjoy these photos from this spectacular evening of music and collaborative energy.
