Montclair State University Chorale Earns Glowing Review for New Jersey Symphony Collaboration

The Montclair State University Chorale joined the New Jersey Symphony for a powerful performance of Mozart’s Requiem, earning high praise in a recent NJArts.net review by Courtney Smith.
The reviewed concert took place April 16, 2026, at NJPAC in Newark, with additional performances on April 18 at NJPAC and April 19 at State Theatre New Jersey in New Brunswick.
Smith praised the collaboration for its “clarity and balance” and highlighted the Chorale’s artistry under the direction of Heather J. Buchanan. Following the concert, she shared with New Jersey Symphony staff that the performance was “outstanding” and “the best Mozart Requiem I’ve heard.”
The program, led by New Jersey Symphony Music Director Xian Zhang, featured music by Fauré, Mahler and Mozart, bringing Montclair State students together with professional musicians on one of New Jersey’s major concert stages.
