Minors

There are two types of minors that are available for music majors only:

The first, Harry Partch Institute Microtonal Music Studies is a specialized program that requires a basic level of understanding of music and is taken in association with other Cali School programs, usually Theory/Composition. You will find more information on this academic program on the Theory/Composition page.

The second type has a limited availability of the following programs..

  • Music Skills - provides theoretical and performance instruction to advanced students.
  • Music Literature - provides students with a basic understanding of music theory through an analysis of how music is structured. The coursework does not include performance training, but serves to increase students' knowledge as listeners or performers.
  • Music History/Theory - provides training in the technical and academic aspects of the art, but does not include performance training. Offers a number of general courses giving an overview of the field. This minor allows students to understand the field in its broadest context within the society.
