Art lovers and collectors can choose from 84 works of contemporary art at the annual Art Connections juried art exhibition and sale, beginning January 26 to February 22 at Montclair State University’s award-winning George Segal Gallery.

Submissions for Art Connections 10  have come from New Jersey, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, North Carolina, New York and Virginia. This year, four Montclair-based artists will be featured along with 54 artists in this popular exhibition that draws hundreds at the opening reception.

Now in its 10th year, the popular exhibit is a must-see among gallery patrons and the area’s many collectors, curators, and art dealers. “Each year, Art Connections looks to assemble works that reflect what is happening nationwide within the art world,” says Teresa Rodriguez, director of the Montclair State University Art Galleries and the George Segal Gallery.

Serving as juror for this year’s event is Marilyn Symmes, Director of Morse Research Center for Graphic Arts and curator of prints and drawings at the Zimmerli Art Museum, Rutgers University. She has organized such exhibitions as “Alone Together: People in American Prints” (2007); “Calculation & Impulse: Abstract American Prints” (2007); “From Here to the Horizon: American Landscape Prints from Whistler to Celmins” (2008); “Pop Art and After: Prints and Popular Culture” (2008); as well as several other exhibitions. Symmes has held posts and organized shows at the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Toledo Museum of Art, and the Cooper-Hewitt. Her book, Fountains, A Visual Sourcebook, will be published in 2010-11.

Gallery hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Thursday from 12:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Entry is from the fourth floor of the Red Hawk Parking Deck adjacent to the Alexander Kasser Theater.
