From Provost Gingerich:
Colleagues and Friends:
I am pleased to announce that following an international search, Dr. Tamara Lucas has been appointed Dean of the College of Education and Human Services at Montclair State University.
Dr. Lucas has previously served the College as Acting Dean, Associate Dean and Professor. As Acting Dean and Associate Dean, she has led major efforts in the College to bring recognition to the education and human services disciplines. With her support and leadership, the College saw a 77% increase in proposed external grant dollars; developed four doctoral degree programs; was awarded new or continuing national accreditation for multiple programs; and became one of only two institutions in the State of New Jersey to be nationally ranked as a Best Education School by US News & World Report. Prior to joining Montclair State, Dr. Lucas worked at Teachers College, Columbia University; University of California Berkeley; and San Francisco State University.
Dr. Lucas is a nationally-recognized scholar in the education of English Language Learners and the preparation of linguistically responsive teachers. She is the author of several books, most recently Teacher Preparation for Linguistically Diverse Classrooms: A Resource for Teacher Educators, Routledge. She has shared her scholarship in more than 150 journal articles, book chapters and presentations, and has served her discipline as a reviewer for several top journals and foundations.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Lucas to her new role, leading the College of Education and Human Services to further recognitions of academic distinction and expanded services to its students.
