On Tuesday, April 4th, CEHS Career Services in collaboration with the Center of Pedagogy, hosted its largest ever annual Educators’ Exchange to date. The Educators’ Exchange is a career fair for K-12 educators, where student teachers and alumni meet with various representatives from local schools, districts, and other education employers. This year, there was increased interest from employers whom sought out student teachers and alumni from Montclair’s Teacher Education Program. Expanding from 49 employers in 2016 to 59 this year, the growing demand for Teacher Education graduates created a wealth of professional opportunities that could be explored at the fair by over 220 student teacher and alumni who were in attendance. To handle the increased volume of attendees, colleagues from Career Services campus-wide were on hand to help the event run smoothly.

The event began with guest speaker, Dr. Barry Bachenheimer of Pascack Valley Regional High School District, who shared opening remarks with students and alumni. Dr. Bachenheimer, who serves as the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment within his district, has returned to the event throughout the years to share his insights about the education field and expertise knowledge on navigating employment for recent graduates. Afterwards, students headed to the Conference Center of University Hall to explore new opportunities and speak with professionals from the wide range of employers. Throughout the four hour event, educator hopefuls networked with other professionals, discussed opportunities, asked questions, reviewed resumes, and made plans for future interviews. Both students and employers alike shared high praise of the days’ event and the success they mutually found in one another.

Leading up to the Educators’ Exchange, Teacher Education students were invited to two events hosted by CEHS Career Services, Mock Interview Week and Career Development Night. These events allowed students to polish resumes, practice interview skills, prepare for the career fair, and hear from two charter schools about navigating the education field. Participation in these events provided students with the opportunity to strengthen their professional presence and to make the most of the interactions and networking that occurred at the Educators’ Exchange.
