The Montclair State University Holmes Honors Alumni Mentoring Program welcomed its second cohort of students and mentors on Thursday, March 5, 2020. The program is designed to provide mentorship and networking opportunities to future teachers of color. Eleven current teacher education students were inducted and connected with one of our ten alumni teachers of color who will serve as their mentors for the duration of their time in the teacher education program and beyond. Our mentors currently teach in Newark Public Schools, Paterson Public Schools, Elizabeth Public Schools, South Orange/Maplewood Public Schools, Montclair Public Schools, and other New Jersey school districts. This cohort of students and mentors joins our previous group of eleven students and seven mentors who were inducted into the inaugural cohort of the Holmes Honors Program at Montclair State last fall.

Additionally, at the event, Dr. Jennifer Robinson, Executive Director of the Center of Pedagogy; Dr. Carolina Gonzalez, Assistant Dean for Administrative, External and Student Affairs of the College of Education and Human Services; and Lisa Abreu Morel, Director of Teacher Education Advisement and Retention in the Center of Pedagogy addressed the importance of membership and networking.
