Dr. Roman Liera

Dr. Román Liera, Assistant Professor in Educational Leadership, was recently recognized by The Review of Higher Education, as his first-authored publication was in the Top 10 of Most Viewed Articles for 2021-22. The article is entitled, “Color-evasive Racism in the Final Stage of Faculty Searches: Examining Search Committee Hiring Practices that Jeopardize Racial Equity Policy.”

Dr. Liera anchors his scholarship on a theoretical understanding of university and college campuses as racialized organizations with cultures and structures constraining administrators and faculty efforts to advance racial equity. His current research projects focus on understanding how racism operates in doctoral student socialization, the academic job market, faculty hiring, reappointment, tenure and promotion, and presidential hiring.

He was recently a presenter for the College Futures Foundation, and was featured by Penn State with Dr. Blanca Elizabeth Vega for their co-authored study, “Latinx scholars speak out on racial assimilation in higher education.”
