Dr. Stephanie Silvera with Briana Vannozzi of NJ Spotlight News

New daily infections of COVID-19 appear to be leveling off, but this weekend the state hit another record high with more than 6,400 new cases reported in a single day. It’s an apparent spike following the holidays, just as health officials warned.

Dr. Stephanie Silvera, Professor in the Public Health Department noted, “After Thanksgiving, our numbers peaked at a high of 5,000 new cases per day. We went back down to just under 4,000. Now what we’re looking at is numbers…about…6,500. So we have had an almost doubling of our 7 day daily averages…It’s entirely possible that those numbers will continue to increase.”
