Fundaciones Históricas de la Educación en Estados Unidos (Historical Foundations of American Education): Fall ’18, Tuesdays & Thursdays, 10-11:15 a.m., (EDFD 221 05 CRN 41062).  Esta clase será ofrecida en Español (This class is offered entirely in Spanish). Permit Required.

This class, which will be offered in the Spanish language, explores the relationships between education, schools, and society utilizing historical perspectives and methods.  This is a class that you want and need to take if you want to become a teacher or have any interest in understanding education in the US, the education of immigrants, the history and present of bilingual education, and education in Latin America and other parts of the world, as well as topics such as civil rights, gender, social class, teaching and learning through time, and educational policy in the past and in the present, among other topics.  Special attention is given to the education of Hispanics/Latinos.   

EDFD 221 fulfills the General Education requirement for American and European History in the Social Science category, as well as it fulfills the pre-requisite for teacher education programs.

Dr. Grinberg, Professor and Chairperson of Educational Foundations, is a native speaker of Spanish and he offers this class in Spanish as an opportunity to learn and practice academic uses of the language.
