B.S. in Public Health Receives Accreditation from the Council on Education for Public Health
Posted in: College News and Events
The Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) has recently accredited Montclair State University’s Bachelor of Science in Public Health with a concentration in Community Health Education. CEPH is an independent agency, directed by a 10-member board, and recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit schools of public health and public health programs outside schools of public health. CEPH assists schools and programs in evaluating the quality of their instructional, research and service efforts, over a three year self-study period, and grants accreditation to those schools and programs that meet its published criteria.
Montclair State’s program is the first undergraduate public health program in New Jersey to be accredited, and also currently the only one in the state.
The mission of the program is to provide students with basic knowledge about the major causes of poor health outcomes domestically and globally as well as how health promotion and disease prevention interventions can protect and enhance the health and well-being of populations. Because health affects almost every aspect of human life, a minor in public health is useful preparation for careers in almost any field including government, business, communications, education, science, or medicine, nursing, psychology, nutrition, and other health professions.
