Free Concert for Schools & Community Groups
Featuring the MSU Singers and Chorale

An opportunity to experience MSU’s acclaimed choirs, University Singers and the MSU Chorale in concert with Dr. Heather J. Buchanan, Conductor , and collaborative artists Steven W. Ryan and Nancianne Parrella.

The University Singers will present repertoire on the themes surrounding death within the cycle of life on earth (suffering, celebrating life, hope, desire, comfort and victory over death). Music will include      

  ~ Song for Athene (John Tavener)

  ~ Lass dich nur nichts nicht dauren (Johannes Brahms)    

The Chorale will perform Johannes Brahms’ epic Ein Deutsches Requiem* with professional soloists Valerie Bernardt, soprano, and Peter Stewart, baritone, in Brahms’ own piano-four hand accompaniment by Steven W. Ryan and guest artist Nancianne Parrella.

*Under the supervision of Dr. Marissa Silverman, Montclair State NAfME students are developing Curriculum Guides for this concert, with particular emphasis on the Brahms German Requiem. The Curriculum Guides will be designed for students in high school and middle school, and will be available for distribution in January 2013.
