Visiting Fellow position at NYU, Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Task Force, Book included in Fordham UP Fall 2016 catalogue,NYU Dissertation committee, La Voce di New York article.

Affiliation with the CEMS at NYU as Visiting Fellow (AY 2016-17)
For the seventh consecutive year in the month of June, the Center for European and Mediterranean Studies at New York University has selected Dr. Fiore as a Visiting Fellow. From Sept. 2016 to Aug. 2017 she will be carrying out her research projects on migration from/to Italy with the assistance of the NYU library resources and services and as part of an interdisciplinary group of scholars.

 

Task force for Made in Italy and language (June-July)
Last June and July, Dr. Fiore offered her contribution to the task force Made in Italy and language project, one of the five groups (n. 5) formed by Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) to address key issues linked to the promotion of the Italian Language and Culture in view of the 2016 edition of the Stati Generali della Lingua Italiana. Dr. Fiore provided assessment and proposals for targeted interventions in the field of the Made in Italy as an engine of growth for the study of the Italian language along with representatives of other universities and national organizations (Dr. Massimo Vedovelli of the Università per Stranieri di Siena, Giovanna Talocci of the Associazione del Design Italiano, Angela Benintende of Italy’s Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Patrizia Ziino of Confindustria, and Fabio Del Giudice of the Associazione Italiana degli Editori, among others). Inclusion of forthcoming book “Pre-Occupied Spaces” in the Fordham UP Fall 2016 catalogue

Dr. Fiore’s book Pre-Occupied Spaces: Remapping Italy’s Transnational Migrations and Colonial Legacies has been included in the Fordham UP Fall 2016 catalogue (p. 17). “Pre-Occupied Spaces” is an interdisciplinary work on cultural spaces, in which the analysis of stories about outbound and inbound migrations as well as colonialism-related relocations sheds light on the history of Italian national formation and identity.

 

External Member for Dissertation Committees at NYU (Aug. 31, 2016)
Dr. Fiore served as external member for the Ph.D. dissertation committee of Kim Ziegler, New York University. Her dissertation, titled “Street-Smart: Critical Approaches to Space and Education in Contemporary Naples,“ was successfully defended on August 31st.

 

Article on studying Italian (La Voce di New York, June 12)

Dr. Fiore was featured in an article about studying Italian published by La Voce di New York. The article (in Italian), titled “Lingua italiana in America: dopo i senatori, la parola a tre prof,” includes commentaries on the topic by three professors of Italian. Dr. Fiore’s extract (“Centralità al Made in Italy e al rapporto con le aziende nei corsi di laurea”) focuses on the importance of the relationship between Italian programs on university campuses abroad and companies representing the Made in Italy brand in and outside Italy.
