Construction Update: New Heating and Cooling System

Posted in: CHCP Updates, Construction News

The University has embarked on an 18-month, $90 million project to construct a new campus-wide combined heating, cooling, and power (CHCP) system. The new system will deliver both steam for heating and chilled water for cooling, and generate enough total energy to satisfy 85 percent of Montclair State’s needs.

Construction is already underway on a plant for the new system next to CarParc Diem (formerly Parking Lot 26). Beginning Monday, June 4, the installation of distribution piping will commence. This will require the closing of the University Promenade between Partridge Hall and University Hall for approximately 4-6 weeks.

Temporary sidewalks and access points will be clearly marked so that the campus community can navigate around the construction areas. All buildings will remain open and accessible.

We will be issuing regular updates on the progress of the construction via email.
