Snow and Hydrants

Posted in: Fire Safety Updates

Many of us have fire hydrants by our houses; some of us even have hydrants on our own property.   With snow accumulations projected to be high during Winter Storm Nemo, through Saturday morning, please remember to shovel around your fire hydrant.  When fire departments need to utilize water sources, such as fire hydrants, seconds count.  If a fire hydrant is buried in snow, it will delay the firefighters’ ability to extinguish the fire, as they will need to shovel snow from around the hydrant- worse yet, they may not even know that a hydrant is there!  When you shovel your driveway/walkways, taking a few moments to dig out your fire hydrant may help to save your life or that of a family member or neighbor.
