Montclair State University Facilities is excited to launch the See It. Own It. Solve It. maintenance awareness campaign.  The goal of S.O.S. is to raise staff awareness of every day campus maintenance issues and to help keep our buildings and grounds safe by reporting problems to the responsible parties- even if those issues fall outside the scope of an individual’s daily job duties.

As Montclair State employees, University Facilities staff are viewed as “ambassadors” who often help to shape how the University is viewed by the public.  We bear the additional responsibility of being the face of our campus buildings and grounds.  Although we, as individuals, work in distinct units, University Facilities must operate as one team working towards the same goal to support Montclair State University in its mission to educate.  As a customer service organization, we must be each others’ eyes and ears in ensuring that our campus looks good and functions seamlessly for students, faculty, staff, and the public-at-large.

In addition to promoting a work environment that is safe, clean, attractive, a proactive maintenance approach results in early and speedy issue resolution which extends the life of our assets and equipment, and reduces inconvenience to staff and customers.  Staff may also spend more time concentrating on planned work as opposed to reacting to “urgent” directives.

Staff are encouraged to document maintenance issues with notes and photos, if necessary, and contact the Facilities Customer Service Center (Service Desk) at servicedesk@montclair.edu to report findings.

Look out for our apparel and materials promoting this initiative and please help support University Facilities in this important initiative.  For more information, contact the University Facilities Learning and Development office at ext. 3304.
