2018-2019 Audition Dates

Applications must be completed no later than two weeks before a chosen audition date.

Friday, November 2, 2018:
2-5 p.m. (Incoming transfers, current MSU students, and graduate applicants)
Friday, February 8, 2019:
2-5 p.m. (All applicants)
Saturday, February 9, 2019:
9 a.m. – 2 p.m. (All applicants)
Friday, March 1, 2019:
2-5 p.m. (All applicants)
Saturday, March 2, 2019:
9 a.m. – 2 p.m. (All applicants)
Thursday, May 16, 2019:
9 a.m. – 2 p.m. (Transfer and graduate applicants)

Undergraduate (Freshmen and Transfer Students)

1. Review your Audition and Interview Requirements

You must audition on a primary instrument or voice and interview with a faculty member. Faculty members interview all prospective students in Music Education in order to assess suitability. Music Education with Jazz Track majors only – Audition information is available on the Jazz Studies page. Musical Theatre auditions are not held at the Cali School: Apply here

Some notes for an online audition:

  • prepare an audition video including specific repertoire requirements for your instrument or voice.

For live auditions:

  • Instrumentalists should be prepared to perform on primary instrument without an accompanist; vocalists will be provided with an accompanist.
  • Bring your own instrument (exception for percussion).
  • Bring your own instrumental music; vocalists should bring music for the accompanist.
  • Transfer applicants only must submit a course syllabus for each music history course for faculty review and approval if you want to transfer credits.

2. Complete the University application here. You will receive an email from admissions with a link to sign up for a video or live undergraduate audition.


Graduate Students

For MA, MAT, and Post-Baccalaureate Certification; applicants for the combined BMus/MAT apply through Undergraduate or Transfer Admissions above.

  • Post-Baccalaureate Certification applicants must schedule an audition and interview.
  • Master of Arts in Teaching Certification (MAT) applicants do not have to audition. However, they must contact Professor Lisa DeLorenzo, the Graduate Education Coordinator, via email to schedule an interview.
  • Master of Arts (MA) applicants do not have to audition. However, they must contact Professor Lisa DeLorenzo, the Graduate Education Coordinator, via email to schedule an interview.

General Notes

  • Audition applications will be processed within two weeks.
  • Upon acceptance to the Cali School, various placement tests will be administered.
  • Non-music majors may only take general education music courses.
  • Music minors are not currently offered.
