Student Dramaturg Marian Palmer (BA Theatre Studies) and Student Assistant Director (MA Theatre Studies) Jeffrey Wingfield will lead a pre-show presentation followed by a panel discussion with notable Montclair State University faculty on Alice Childress’ landmark play Wedding Band, opening this week at the Alexander Kasser Theater. The pre-show talk will take place on Friday November 9th at 6:00 pm.

Palmer and Wingfield have done extensive research on the play and playwright and are set to share their findings with audience, enhancing the viewing experience. The play, written by prominent African-American playwright Alice Childress and directed by Heather Benton (Program Coordinator of BFA Acting), takes place in the south during World War I and explores the challenges facing an interracial couple. Palmer will give a brief talk providing historical context to the work, followed by a panel discussion mediated by Wingfield. Set to appear on the panel are Jason Williams (Justice Studies), Sandra Collins ( African American Studies) Carrie O’Dell (Women, Gender and Sexuality) and Benton.

Wedding Band opens Thursday November 8, 2018 and runs through Sunday, November 11. For tickets, go to https://www.peakperfs.org/event/wedding-band-a-love-hate-story-in-black-and-white/2018-11-08/
