Writers Between Two Worlds Image

The geographic circulation of writers and the cross-cultural encounters generated by this motion have led to a significant and ever-expanding literary and artistic output concerned with all forms of existing and creating between two worlds. This two-part program is devoted to poets, novelists, playwrights, philosophers, essay writers, translators, film directors, and journalists who have given voice to these complex cultural collisions and interchanges as protagonists or witnesses. While Italy and the U.S. play central roles, the program highlights the truly global nature of this production by also addressing writers from Europe and Latin America.

The first part of the program is a symposium which includes academic presentations given in Italian (primarily) and in English by a group of international scholars investigating the cultural, psychological and social implications of multiple geographies. The second part is the presentation of two recent groundbreaking anthologies (Italoamericana and Poets of the Italian Diaspora) that compile some of the most relevant writings of the Italian diaspora. The program includes readings and live musical accompaniment.
