Ethernet Card
Ethernet card is a computer hardware component that the computer to physically connect to the network. RESnet connectivity requires at a 10/100 Base-T Ethernet card.
Network Patch Cables
RESnet also requires an RJ-45 Category 5 Ethernet cable. We found that a 14 feet cable is sufficient for most rooms as it can be run along the wall and behind furniture.
Both the network card and/or RJ-45 Category 5 Ethernet cable at the MSU University Bookstore (located in the Student Center) or your local computer vendor.
Operating System/Ethernet Card Media
Please make sure you bring with you the Operating System and Network Card media that comes with the system (diskettes or CDs). You may need them in your configuration setup and troubleshooting RESnet access. RESnet will NOT provide Operating system diskettes or CDs.
Anti-Virus Software
Every student is required to have an up-to-date anti-virus software installed on their own computer system which they bring to use on campus. A University licensed version of Sophos anti-virus software is available for students if necessary. For more information visit the Computer Security page.
