How Do I Install Sonoma?

Macs Running MacOS 13.4 or Higher

Apple has changed the way they apply macOS upgrades. If you are running macOS 13.4 or higher, you no longer need to be an administrator to install the next version of macOS. The process is now faster and more reliable when completed using the built-in Software Update Pane of System Settings.

Follow the below steps to upgrade:

  • Click on the Apple in the top left corner of your menu bar and open System Settings.
  • Click on General.
  • Click on Software Update.
  • Click on Upgrade Now.

Macs Running MacOS versions older than 13.4.X

If you are running macOS 13.3.x or lower, you will need to upgrade via the Mac Software Center.  You will find Sonoma in the OS category. Using the Mac Software Center

The upgrade can take from 30 to 60 minutes to complete. Make sure you have backed up your data before starting.

How do I know which MacOS I am on?

Please use Apple’s instructions to confirm your Mac operating system.

Just a quick reminder that we only offer support for the three latest Mac operating systems, which are: macOS 14 (Sonoma), macOS 13 (Ventura), and macOS 12 (Monterey). If you’re using any operating system older than these three, it means they are no longer supported and need to be upgraded. In case your device isn’t capable of running the latest OS, it’s recommended to retire it from service. Please do not hesitate to contact the IT Service Desk for information and assistance regarding disposal.

Please Note: If you use SPSS, you will need to apply a patch to use the program with Sonoma. Verify you are running SPSS 27 then go to Software Center to install the SPSS 27 fix.
