Memoria presente project: Architecture

Architecture is another area in which commonalities among distant places like Naples, Sicily, Mexico, and Peru, to name a few, can be identified, mostly in the baroque style and its numerous variants across continents and centuries.

The inquiry into this field starts somewhat surprisingly on the Montclair campus with an investigation into the origins of the Spanish Mission Revival Style, as an echo of an earlier architectural style introduced at the time of the Spanish conquest in the Americas. See a video retracing this history and reflecting on its visibility and invisibility at once at a Hispanic-Serving Institution.
