The Intercollegiate Broadcasting System management awards were announced via Instagram on April 7, and WMSC’s station manager Hiral Patel won first place for “Best Station Manager in the Nation”.

Hiral has been with WMSC since her first semester as a freshman in 2016, when she joined as a newscaster. On her interview to join the Student Management Team in Dec 2016, she told then station manager, Juan Contla, and General Manager, Anabella Poland, that she wanted to apply for “his job” which was a bold move, but she worked towards that goal and she has led the station since last May.

Although soft-spoken, Hiral is a force of nature, leading a team of 20 student managers, over 60 DJs and apprentice DJS and working closely with General Manager Anabella Poland to raise the bar of programming and student involvement. She has hosted her own show, she co-hosts a news show via Zoom on Thursdays and has been an active participant in projects of the School of Communication and Media such as “#Focus: Immigration and Election Nights.”

She interned at CBS’ “This Morning” in Fall 2019, and this semester she has been interning at MSNBC Live and Weekends with Alex Witts,  in the booking department.
Congratulations Hiral!
