Special Open Enrollment: April 1-30, 2024

The New Jersey Division of Pensions and Benefits (NJDPB) has designated Monday, April 1, 2024 – Tuesday, April 30, 2024, as a Special Open Enrollment.

Why Is There a Special Enrollment Period at This Time?

This Special Open Enrollment is providing the opportunity for all employees to learn about the new Aetna medical plan, with the option to enroll in this new plan.

If you choose to enroll in the new Aetna medical plan during this Special Open Enrollment, it will become effective Monday, July 1, 2024 – Tuesday, December 31, 2024.

Please Note: Horizon medical plans will remain unchanged for the 2024 plan year.

Enrollment Details

  • No Action Is Required if: You do not wish to make any changes to your current medical plan.
  • Action Is Required if: You wish to change your medical plan, by either adjusting a current Horizon plan or changing to the new Aetna plan.
  • For Additional Information: Beginning Monday, April 1, 2024, employees will be able to log into the Benefitsolver website by accessing a link on their MyNewJersey portal or via mynjbenefitshub.nj.gov.

What’s New and What You Need to Know?

  • The Special Open Enrollment Period is April 1- April 30, 2024.
  • New Aetna medical plans will be available effective Monday, July 1, 2024.
  • Horizon Plan will remain unchanged for the remainder of 2024.
  • You have the option to switch your medical plan provider from Horizon to Aetna.
  • Both Horizon and Aetna medical plans offer the same benefits. The only difference is the network of available healthcare providers offered by each plan.
  • If you choose to change your plan, any payments made towards your deductible will carry over to your new plan.
  • For the remaining year of 2024, the rates for both Horizon and Aetna medical plans are the same.
  • During the Special Open Enrollment, you cannot add or remove dependents from coverage or change Dental plans.
  • If you currently are not enrolled in a benefits plan, you cannot make any changes during this Special Enrollment Period.
  • Employees who are currently enrolled in the Horizon Omnia plan for less than 12 months and have received the $1,000 incentive reward will be required to pay back the incentive if they opt out of this plan, unless the Aetna Liberty Plus plan is elected.
  • If an employee switches to Aetna Liberty Plus from Horizon Omnia, they will not have to repay the $1,000 incentive reward.

Bloomfield Campus

Monday, March 18 – Wednesday, March 20: There will be HR Specialists to assist in answering Open Enrollment questions at Knox Hall, 2nd floor. To request a one-on-one meeting, please email benefits@montclair.edu.
