Bereavement Leave

An employee who is absent from work due to death of an immediate family may be granted a maximum of 5 bereavement leave days. Proof of death may be required in order to receive bereavement pay.

An immediate family member is defined as a parent, grandparent, parent-in-law, spouse, children, stepchildren, grandchildren, sibling, aunt or uncle.

The employee must attach a copy of one of the following: death certificate, funeral service document or newspaper obituary via a time off request in Workday.

To be supportive of employees who are experience a significant personal loss, absence not covered under bereavement leave may be accommodated for with a leave of absence. Please contact the benefits office at hr-benefits@montclair.edu for guidance on the process.
