The New Jersey Division of Pensions & Benefits provides seminars and webinars for members. Topics include Retirement Planning, PERS Retirement Estimates, PERS Pension Options, submitting an MBOS Retirement Application, and Understanding your Pension Benefits

Health Benefits After Retirement
  • Health benefits with Montclair will end at the end of the month of your retirement date
    • Example: Retirement date: July 1st Health Benefits end: July 31st
  • If you do not have 25 years of service with the State you will be responsible for the full costs of the premium
  • If you have 25 years of service or more your health benefits rate will be based on when you reached your 25 years
  • Years of service is not maintained by Montclair, the State is the record keeper. Therefore to confirm your years of service you must request an audit of your service from the State.

Retirement Checklist
  • Complete the Steps to Retirement — Self-Guided Presentation
  • Request your pension service credit letter through the New Jersey Division of Pension and Benefits (optional)

  • Submit written intent to retire notice to your department. Retirement must be the first of the month
  • Submit retirement paperwork to hr-benefits@montclair.edu (ABP members) or through MBOS (PERS members)
  • Contact your financial advisor to withdraw your $1,000 distribution (ABP members) or if enrolled in a supplemental plan
  • Once HR receives your completed retirement forms, medicare eligible employees/dependents will receive a completed Medicare Part B Form
    • Submit Medicare Part B form to Social Security
    • Once you receive your Medicare cards, they will need to be uploaded to Benefitsolver
  • On your retirement date log into Benefitsolver to view/enroll in your retiree health benefits

Note: If you log into Benefitsolver prior to your retirement date, you will see your active benefits which cannot change until after you retire
